ABOUT

BODY POSITIVE PHYSIOTHERAPY

I trained as a physiotherapist later in life, driven by an innate interest in health, the human body, and a desire to help people get better, stronger, and more empowered.

As an experienced physiotherapist, Mummy MOT™ practitioner, and Yoga Teacher specialising in women’s health, I take a truly holistic approach.

Body Positive Physiotherapy is born of my lived experience, clinical work, and commitment to providing optimal outcomes for every individual.

The Mummy MOT™

A specialised 1-hour postnatal assessment with a gentle exercise plan to begin core conditioning.

Often a Post Natal Mummy MOT is sufficient to address postnatal concerns, or simply be a review to provide guidance on gentle rehab. The assessment will identify anything that requires further review — or provide the reassurance not always given in the common GP postnatal check.

WHATS INCLUDED

  • Full review of pelvic floor function (optional)

  • Strength, balance, posture & breath quality

  • Pregnancy & birth history review

  • Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA) assessment

I also see women during pregnancy for Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP), body conditioning and preparation for birth.

Yoga

A transformative method for injury, postnatal recovery, strength, emotional well-being and mental health.

As a certified Yoga teacher, I utilise the intelligence of Yoga to address the body and mind together. I have studied science and recognise the application of a yogic approach when working with the individual — one that assists in resetting the nervous system back to safety and balancing the mind in our modern world.

With Yoga, I draw on the deep knowledge of the self that's only told by lived experience. The relationship of mind and body, and the intersection of challenges — both physical and beyond the physical.

Pelvic Health

Evidence-based pelvic rehabilitation for women through the life span — with a focus on the postnatal period, perimenopause and beyond.

Physiotherapy, and specifically pelvic rehabilitation, is recognised as statistically effective and is often non-invasive. For conditions such as prolapse, recovery may also be assisted by pessaries. I can refer to gynaecology specialisms or Sports Medicine Consultants, and send direct referrals for scans and other investigations as required.

I aim to ensure all women, no matter their age, feel stronger and healthier — armed with the information to optimally manage their health, well-being and fitness.

After unsuccessful knee surgery, working with Carmen has made a huge difference. Her expert, holistic approach has greatly reduced my stiffness and soreness, and she always explains each treatment clearly while recommending exercises to support my recovery. Our weekly sessions have significantly improved my physical well-being, which I value greatly as an older man.
